Business rates are a significant part of your business costs and BNE’s expert advice will help to keep your liability to a minimum. Rates have been around for hundreds of years but legislation changes regularly and is increasingly complicated. BNE’s experience and knowledge in this area can help you get the best result at your next rates assessment.
Generally revaluations are every five years and when alterations to the premises are carried out. A rating appeal is usually a one-off opportunity and BNE can help you use that opportunity to your best advantage – especially as the Valuation Officer’s records may not always be 100% accurate.
In providing rating advice BNE will do the following:
- Fully consider your assessment for business rates and the liability that follows
- Undertake a full survey of your premises
- Using BNE’s specialist knowledge undertake a valuation for rating purposes and compare this with the Valuation Officer’s assessment
- Advise you on the best method of minimising your liability and whether an appeal should be made
- Handle all aspects of the appeal process and negotiate on your behalf
In most cases an acceptable assessment can be negotiated with the Valuation Officer using appropriate evidence – if an agreement cannot be reached BNE will advise on the merits of pursuing an appeal to an Independent Valuation Tribunal.
Support with Tribunal
If agreement cannot be reached by negotiation with the Valuation Officer, your case will be referred to an independent Valuation Tribunal unless you decide to withdraw your appeal.
