Planning Supervision & CDM Regulations

The BNE Building Team can support you when you need to appoint a Planning Co-ordinator under your obligations contained in the CDM regulations. Introduced in 1994 and updated in 2007, the regulations place a duty on clients, designers and contractors to manage Health and safety through all stages of a construction project.

With extensive experience on numerous projects since the Act’s introduction, a BNE Planning Co-ordinator can help you by:

  • Co-ordinating the Health and Safety aspects of the design and construction and advise a client on his/her duties
  • Formulating a Health and Safety plan ensuring clients, designers and the project team comply with CDM Regulations and, in particular, avoid and reduce risk.
  • Carry out necessary checks on all parties involved in the project and ensure that they satisfy the requirements of the CDM Regulations.
  • Check that the Risk Assessments and various methods of working are in place and have been approved, and advise on the construction phase of the Plan.
  • Ensure that a pre-tender Health and Safety Plan is prepared before work is tendered.
  • Where necessary, notify the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and serve the appropriate Notice on them, and prepare a Health and Safety File at the end of a project.

CDM Regulations generally apply to all construction projects and to works that are notifiable to the HSE and last more than 30 days or involve more than 500 person days.

They can apply to smaller projects and BNE can offer initial advice to let you know if your project will fall under the jurisdiction. If it does, BNE can tell you what your responsibilities will be and what to put in place to make sure you remain compliant with this Regulation.
